#10 : The Exam Scandal
Detective Val Luce and The Exam Scandal
The crisp morning air filled Detective Valluce's lungs as he sipped his coffee. His phone buzzed, interrupting his peaceful moment. It was the principal of the prestigious Yaki Academy.
"Detective Valluce, we have a serious problem. Someone has stolen the upcoming final exam papers," the principal said, his voice filled with concern.
Valluce knew this case would require a delicate touch. Cheating scandals could ruin the academy's reputation and its students' futures.
At Yaki Academy, Valluce met with Principal Fathi. "The exams were locked in a secure cabinet in my office. Only a few staff members have access," Fathi explained.
Valluce inspected the office. The lock on the cabinet showed no signs of forced entry. This indicated that the thief had a key or knew the combination. He also found a small, crumpled note on the floor with a string of numbers: 3, 9, 15, 21.
Valluce began by interviewing the staff members with access to the exams. First was Ms. Salwa, the strict math teacher. "I would never compromise my integrity for a few exam papers," she said sternly.
Next was Mr. Mohsen, the easygoing history teacher. He seemed too relaxed about the situation. "Kids these days, are always looking for shortcuts," he chuckled.
Lastly, Valluce spoke with Ms. Lamia, the nervous new chemistry teacher. "I barely know my way around the school, let alone the principal's office," she said, fidgeting with her pen.
As Valluce left the office, he noticed a group of students whispering and looking his way. One of them, a bright student named Emily, accidentally dropped a book. Valluce picked it up and saw a similar string of numbers written inside 3, 9, 15, 21.
Valluce decided to follow Emily after school. She led him to the library, where a group of students had gathered. They were discussing the stolen exam papers in hushed tones. Emily seemed to be the leader of the group.
Valluce approached them, revealing his presence. "Mind telling me what those numbers mean?" he asked, holding up the note.
Emily looked nervous but confessed. "It's a code we use to communicate. We heard rumors about someone selling the exam papers, and we wanted to find out who it was."
Emily revealed that she had seen Mr. Mohsen meeting with a suspicious person behind the school. Valluce followed this lead and discovered that Mr. Hargrove had a gambling problem and was in debt. He had stolen the exam papers to sell them and pay off his debts.
Valluce sets a trap by arranging a meeting with the buyer, pretending to be Mr. Mohsen. The buyer showed up, and Valluce apprehended him. With the buyer in custody, Valluce confronted Mr. Mohsen.
Faced with the evidence, Mr. Mohsen confessed. "I was desperate. I didn't want to lose my house," he admitted, tears in his eyes.
The exam papers were recovered, and the integrity of Yaki Academy was preserved. Mr. Mohsen was arrested, and the students were commended for their honesty and bravery in helping solve the case.
As Valluce walked away from the academy, he reflected on the importance of integrity and the lengths some would go to protect their secrets. It had been a challenging case, but justice had been served.
Back at his office, Valluce prepared for the next mystery. The city was full of secrets, and Detective Valluce was always ready to uncover the truth.
